LA Lifestyle: What to Look for in Your Next Neighborhood
What do you like about the neighborhood that you’re in now?
What’s missing in your neighborhood that you wish was there?
What is within walking distance to your home? What isn’t?
If you’re considering relocating — now, or at some point in the future — it’s essential that you consider carefully what you value in a neighborhood. Sometimes attributes that once mattered will no longer seem important, and some attributes that you used to not even think about will now seem like an absolute requirement for your next community area.
In this short video, I use real-life examples:
Dane Findley loves his vegetable juicer and adding chocolate chips to just about everything.
Also, he’s owned the same pair of sunglasses for over 4 years. True story.

Let me know in the comments section what neighborhood attributes you think are the best to have.

While I’ve commuted as much as an hour and twenty minutes to and from work each day, my preference is to live within walking distance to my office. A great health food store and, of course, a Starbucks nearby is also a wonderful thing. (Their vanilla soy tea latte at 120 degrees is my personal favorite!)
Proximity to work is a huge factor for me, too. I used to have a similar drive to David and it was brutal. Although, I don’t mind driving a little bit longer to get to work, if I’m able to walk everywhere once I’m back home. When I lived in Los Feliz, I could walk to Vons, to the Vista Theater, to Skylight Books (my favorite bookstore ever), to a bunch of restaurants, and to the library. It was perfect… except for the fact that I worked on the westside. And after a few years of that, ultimately, I had to sacrifice my neighborhood to be closer to work. Because if you don’t have any freetime since you’re working or commuting all day long, what’s the point of being close to fun spots?
