Gas Prices on the Rise: Stay Close to Home this Presidents’ Day Weekend

Gas prices are on the rise again just in time for Presidents’ Day weekend, but you don’t need to drive far when you live in the Conejo Valley for some fun this weekend. One of the delights of living outside of Los Angeles is that there is so much within a short drive to see and do, it makes commuting worth while.

Gas prices 200x300 Gas Prices on the Rise: Stay Close to Home this Presidents Day WeekendThis weekend has much to offer our local residents who might be planning a “staycation” this weekend. If you are around and need to fill your schedule, here are three fun activities for the entire family.

  1. Want to brush up on your history? Saturday and Sunday you can travel back in time to watch a live reenactment with Confederates, Union soldiers and civilians living out the true life of a civil war soldier in this two day war encampment reenactment. Activities are underway from 10 am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 3pm. Located at the Strathearn Historical Park & Museum in Simi Valley, don’t forget to bring some cash for admission: $5 for adults and children 13 or older or $3 for kids 5-12.
  2. Little ones to entertain? On Sunday you might want to take a trip to Sherman Oak’s Lollipop Dream, to enjoy an interactive Snow White Imagination Theatre performance. The production begins at 11am and ends at 12:30. Children will have the opportunity to transform themselves through the world of dress-up and imagination throughout their stories and shows. You must RSVP at (818) 991-7446 prior to the show and bring your imagination.
  3. Feeling patriotic and wanting to celebrate past Presidents? Then you should head out to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, where they will open their doors to the 20th Annual Presidents’ Day Celebration. Food, music, stories, arts and crafts await the entire family from 10:30 am – 3:00 pm.

So, there is no need to burden your wallet with steep gas prices and lengthy car rides to escape the madness of what is Los Angeles. Suburban living has its perks and these three activities can stimulate the family, while keeping your bank account out of the red. Of course if you have time, you can always drive 9 miles down Kanan towards the coast and enjoy the views.

What do you have planned this weekend? Are you hanging around to avoid the hike in gas prices? Or, will you venture out and not worry? I invite you to share any fun activities that might be happening in the Conejo and San Fernando Valleys down below.

  1. Gas prices seems to keep going up and it looks like there is no end in sight. Remember when gas was under 2 dollars just 10 years ago? 20$ bought so much more stuff!
