Los Angeles has a vibrant art scene with world renowned museums and incredible galleries.  On any given day of the week you can check out some wonderful exhibits that will fill your culture card and help you feel a little bit more connected to the fascinating LA art scene.

LACMA2 225x300 Exploring the LA Art Scene: Best Art Exhibits to Check Out in Los AngelesPacific Standard Time is a cultural collaboration that celebrates the LA art scene, encapsulating the major art movements from 1945 to 1980.  Over 60 institutions have participated in this event, which has been going on throughout Los Angeles since the fall of last year with many exhibits still on display.

In addition to the impressive lineup of Pacific Standard Time exhibits, there are many other great shows to see if you’re feeling like getting your cultural fix this weekend:

  1. LACMA: Pacific Standard Time ‘California Design, 1930–1965: “Living in a Modern Way”‘.  Through June 3, 2012
  2. The Getty: Pacific Standard Time “In Focus: Los Angeles, 1945-1980″.  Through May 6, 2012
  3. DrkRm: Ansel Adams Photographs.  February 18-March 17
  4. MOCA: “Naked Hollywood: Weegee in Los Angeles”.  Through February 27, 2012
  5. Annenberg Space for Photography: “Digital Darkroom”.  Through May 28, 2012

There are so many stimulating things to do here in Los Angeles and you don’t have to travel far to find some inspiration.  Take advantage of the vibrant LA art scene and visit one of these incredible art exhibits while they are still going on.

I feel culturally illiterate when you ask me the last time I went to a museum because it’s been so long that I visited the Getty. As I’ve gotten older, part of the museum experience for me is not just looking at the art but being able to slow my mind down as I amble along, drifting to my left and right and while standing before a work of art, marveling at the the talent and discipline it take s to create a work worthy of display in one of our recognized venues. Great post, Jessica. Thanks for stimulating my mind and encouraging me to get back in front of a Master.
